The marketing skills you’ll need to promote your new app

It’s a given that you will need to market your new business app in order to generate downloads and build your user list. But, having to execute an entire marketing strategy can feel overwhelming. After all, you have so many different channels to choose from and so many things to get done, it can be hard to know where to start – and easy to waste a lot of money on marketing experts because you don’t have a clear vision of what you need to do.

To set your new app marketing campaign on a solid foundation for success, the first thing you should do is list all of the skills you’ll need to get the word out about your new business app design. With that master list in hand, you can begin to assign areas of responsibility to colleagues (or yourself) and easily identify where gaps exist that will need to be filled in by third party service providers.

1. Graphic design

In order to create eye-catching social media posts, email shots and blog headers, you’ll need to either learn some basic graphic design or find someone in your team that’s a whiz at making things look good. If you aren’t already confident with design tasks, you can teach yourself the basics and create professional looking images by using a tool such as Canva.

2. Copywriting

To entice users to download your app, showcase its features and promote your launch, you’ll need a talented wordsmith. The app description is also important for App Store optimisation and can be the difference between convincing users they need to add your new app to their device and them choosing a different company entirely. A copywriter can also add polish to your other marketing activities, such as a press release to announce the launch, the text on your app screens and social media posts, not to mention any ads you may have planned.

3. A social media specialist

Social media is one of the best ways to get the word out about your app – but with a choice of platforms and an uphill struggle to grow a following, you’ll need someone familiar and comfortable with social media to ensure time and money are being well spent. Social media promotion increasingly involves a sponsored or ad element so there could be budgets involved too, in which case you’ll also need someone who has some paid social media experience to avoid wasting your precious marketing budget.
