Which App Stores Should You Publish Your App On?

Patrice Appleton • Jul 02, 2019

Everyone knows that, for iOS, there is perhaps nothing better than Apple’s App Store, and for Android, Google Play is the clear winner. But these are not the only options, and if you’re looking to expand your reach and get your new business app in front of more eyes, it’s important to know about some of the alternatives that are out there. By publishing not only on the major platforms, but also in the places where your audiences are, you could massively boost downloads and sales… so here are some great app stores to consider:

For Improved Visibility… Amazon App Store

It should come as no surprise to learn that Amazon is one of the most visited websites in the UK, which should make it an obvious choice. But the Amazon App Store is actually very overlooked when it comes to app promotion, with a common misconception that the store is only for Kindle Fire devices. The truth is that Kindle Fire tablets run the Android operating system, so if you’re releasing your app for Android, the Amazon App Store is a must, especially in terms of visibility as the website welcomes millions of visitors a month.

For Budget-Friendly Publishing… Appszoom

Appszoom may not be as well known as Amazon, but it does have a few advantages that will benefit businesses greatly. First, unlike Amazon, it covers both Android and iOS apps, giving you access to a larger audience pool. Secondly, it’s actually completely free to list your app on the Appszoom platform, so it costs you nothing to get your app in front of more sets of eyes.

For Greater Reach… SlideME

SlideME is the second biggest Android app store after Google Play, and it comes pre-loaded into more than 140 devices, so for many people it’s their ‘go to’ app store. This means you can reach a whole host of additional Android users through SlideME that you may not have easy access to through Google Play. Add in the fact that SlideME is actually older than Google Play, and you’ll also be reaching some of the earlier Android users who have not yet made the switch to Google’s own app store.

Which App Store is Best?

There’s no right or wrong. It’s all about getting your app in front of your audience… wherever they may be! Before diving in and publishing across each and every platform, it’s a good idea to conduct an audience analysis, giving you a better idea of what sorts of devices and operating systems your target audience are more likely to be using. This can help you to publish in the best places, and derive the most value from your efforts.
