3 reasons you should use an app to track CPD

Patrice Appleton • Jul 10, 2018

Most businesses these days offer lots of perks to encourage more staff to join and stay with them. Much of the time these benefits include small things that will add to the day to day wellbeing of your team, such as free tea and coffee, a paid-for work social or even a company phone or car. Arguably the most valuable, however, is training and development.

A highly educated staff is a huge boon to a company – we’re all familiar with that old fable where the two managers are having a discussion about training; the first asks, "What if we train them, and they just leave?" The second responds, "What if we don't train them, and they stay?" Offering a CPD – which means continuing professional development – in app form allows your staff the opportunity to learn their own way, in their own time.

Learning on-the-go

Attending conferences, workshops and seminars is a fantastic way to ensure your team are learning from professionals in your industry and networking with likeminded people. It is, however, one of the most costly ways to train your staff. Several things have to be thought of that don’t just include the price of a seat: the cost of their absence to your company, transport and food expenses, whether an overnight stay is necessary and so on.

Using an app to track CPD means that your team can learn wherever they need to, from the train journey home to the shower and everywhere in between.

Easy sharing of information

CPD can be a benefit to staff because it means they get to ensure they’re growing and improving as professionals by adding to their skills. It’s also a huge benefit to employers as it means that they can ensure their staff are highly capable. To ensure that you can track your team’s CPD it’s vital to ensure you have an app that allows information to be shared easily. An app which can draw up reports and give daily or weekly reviews means that employers can work closely with staff on their professional development.

Multi-media learning

Over time, we’re gradually learning that everyone works slightly differently, and there’s no black and white way to develop. Whether learning through reading, watching videos, listening to podcasts, or liaising with professionals, an app gives you the opportunity to combine a range of media. This greatly adds value to your CPD, and, from a recruitment standpoint, to your company.
